Transcending international boundaries

The NWBP landscape also transcends international boundaries. It falls within the boreal forest biome and includes Southcentral and Interior Alaska, most of the Yukon Territory, the northern portion of British Columbia, and a small part of Northwest Territories. The area includes over 330 million acres, and encompasses large portions of the Yukon, Kuskokwim, Susitna, and Copper River Basins. Many of our projects develop large scale data and information that spans the US-Canada border. Our work is focused on benefiting shared natural landscapes rather than being limited by our political or drawn borders.

Our Region

The Northwest Boreal Partnership focuses our work and network of partners within the boreal forest biome and includes Southcentral and Interior Alaska, most of the Yukon Territory, the northern portion of British Columbia, and the western half of the Northwest Territories. The area includes over 330 million acres, and encompasses large portions of the Yukon River, Kuskokwim River, Susitna River, and Copper River Basins, as well as portions of the traditional lands of the Dené Athabascan, Gwich’in, Tagish, and Tlingit peoples.
